HOMEPAGE  |  THE UNSEEN MUSEUM   |  CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION

The Museum does not have its own full-time teams for conservation and restoration. It does, however, monitor the conditions of preventive conservation of the collections and has set up a policy of intervention, defined by priorities in the actions of conservation and restoration.
Following the big campaign for the conservation and restoration of the collections of Flemish Art in Lisbon in the 1940's, the collections have been conserved and restored on a sporadic basis, resorting to ateliers for conservation and restoration. Besides institutional contacts established with the former Instituto José de Figueiredo, Instituto Superior de Conservação e Restauro, the Museum has used private ateliers and continues to request the intervention of ateliers in mainland Portugal and others established more recently on Madeira Island.
This intervention has not been limited to work on the collections of the Museum, but has also included work required for the implementation of projects of temporary exhibitions.
