Educational services were installed in 1994, giving special attention to educational activities for students from elementary schools to university level.

The Museum has material specifically prepared for its activities, including pedagogical kits, puzzles and didactic games, etc. Guided tours around a specific theme are also given.





Each year specific events are scheduled for the commemoration of the International Day of the Museum on 18 May.

In partnership with the Technical Services of Education of Physically Handicapped/Visually Impaired, printed material in Braille (Portuguese, French, and English) has been prepared, with images in relief specifically for the blind. There is also a broad range of documentation available for amblyopic persons.





In 2005, at the first edition of the national competition A minha Escola adopta um Museu, (My School Adopts a Museum), an initiative of the Portuguese Institute of Museums and the General Directorate of Innovation and Curricular Development, an Honourable Mention was awarded to students of the Externato da Apresentação de Maria in Funchal for a work about a Flemish statue in our collection, which was the fruit of an educational service action of this museum.
